One aspect of applied design, skills and technology that we have not discussed before is drafting. One way we have incorporated this into our classroom is for a project in Financial Literacy. It is called  ‘The Cost of a Room’, and the students had to choose a room in a house to furnish and decorate including, lighting, windows, heating, flooring, furniture, appliances, and decor. They had to plan it out on paper including finding square footage of their room and also keep in mind energy efficient appliances. They are building a diorama of their room with a list of both set up and running costs (using BC Hydro calculator). We are also going to experiment with the drafting program SketchUp. I have one student who has used it before and will display his room using SketchUp instead of a diorama.
